Finding Your Travel Customers

Does your customer need you? (Of course they do)

What makes you different from the next travel agent down the street or now 'online'?

Think about what you have to offer.

Can you visualize your clients? Give them names.

Do you know 'How old' they are? Where do they live, work, and play? How much money do they make? What do they wear? What is their educational background, interests and passions?

Customers want to know "what's in it for me?". What are the benefits of doing business with you?

The answer to this question should be very obvious to your customers by your promotional material, your sound bite and on your website. Explain to people clearly what they will get as a result of doing business with you.

People do business with people

(especially ones they like)

So start Networking

Think about where you target customers might go. Then get out and meet them. Join business networks and spread the word of what you are doing.

People they have come to know and trust. Networking is about relationships. Listening and helping others. They in turn will remember you and your product or service.

Networking is not about collecting and giving out as many business cards as possible.

Just like “One size” panty hose (It does not fit everyone!)

The same “one size’ type of advertising does not suit everyone.

How do you effectively reach your customers? Having done your homework you will know what your customers want.

Keep track of what works and what doesn’t. You may find that a different approach is required to connect with your potential customers.

People are busy and it usually takes more than one flyer or ad to reach them. They need reminders and in different forms, making it easy for them to take action. Keep track of what works.

Seek out possible cross-promotions with someone that has a service that would complement yours. Working together will help with advertising costs and widen your network of travel customers

... And a little more

Give 10%

Remember that word of mouth is your best advertising. It's FREE!

Your customers are your extended sales force. People remember when you give that extra 10% and they will tell their family, friends and work mates.

Running your own home-based travel business is hard work.

It is important to build your own support team. These are people who are there to encourage you when you’re down and lack motivation. They will celebrate your successes and who will give you honest answers.

Consider organizing a small group of associates from your target group. Invite them to join you for coffee and ask for their feedback.

Ask for their ideas, for what will work, and draw on their past skills and knowledge. Listen and take notes. Ask questions.

This group of individuals will have a vested interest in you and will likely continue to help you and promote your travel business.

Finding your customers to be a successful home-based travel business requires initiative and being consistent.

Most of all just get started and do it!
