Find your travel niche & set yourself apart
My basic philosophy in life is
“Anything is possible”
I may not know how to achieve something, but I certainly know there is a way to achieve anything I can imagine. I just have to find, or sometimes create, the way.
“Anything is possible” is my current motto - the slogan that carries me through every day.
It has helped me achieve some impressive results, from starting a Private Care Home for seniors to cruising with seniors.
Where did I get this idea?
Well, let me tell you about a little lady named – Beth (named changed for privacy).
It was her hearts desire to go to England and see where her mother was born and raised. She had heard the story about the chapel where her grandparents were married and 16 children were baptized. How she dreamed & talked of visiting this place.
Now, picture yourself as an older lady, never married, having no children and few relatives.
Imagine what it would be like to have no one to travel with. It is scary to even think of going out by yourself, let alone half way around the world.
Ask yourself what would you do? Go alone or stay at home.
Are you beginning to see why I had to help this little lady?
(I just know that if it was within your power you would have done the same thing!)
Beth went to England and we located the little parish and graveyard, even found the house of her grandparents.
Seeing firsthand the sheer joy that this travel experience brought to her was intoxicating and opened my eyes to the realization that I wanted many others, to indulge in this awesome experience.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to help hundreds, no thousands of single women fulfill their dreams and travel?
This was my aha moment.
Anything is possible and I was going to start fulfilling dreams.
Hi, my name is Debbie Wakelam. Some of you may remember me from living and working in the Strathmore area. Hello and nice to connect with you again.
Collecting experiences
During the course of owning and operating a Private Care Home for seniors there were several occasions when I had the privilege and pleasure of enabling and supporting my senior clients and friends to travel overseas and go on cruises.
Why Cruising is Called “Perfect”
Unpack once. Having your stateroom tidied and made ready daily, a chocolate on the pillow each night, heaven
Share fine dining and conversations with other guests each night – easy to meet and make new friends.
Belong to a group of guests with similar interests travelling to a common destination
Ladies this is your chance to get dressed up and go out each evening for entertainment and dancing
Ask yourself this … what do you look for?
(My own little secret is that I look at a product or service for what is exciting about it)
Going on a cruise definitely fulfills these needs – good value, adventure, excitement, companionship, safety & fun
Why Alaska?
Yes, this was the start of my love of cruising – a cruise to Alaska with 3 seniors. Who knew it would be so much FUN!
You probably know this is the number one cruise destination. I had thought who would want to go to somewhere cold for a holiday?
Was I wrong!
Who new, Anchorage is known as the city of flowers. The boulevards were filled with an amazing mix of flowers and ornamental kale and cabbages. Then there were the roses and hanging baskets, everywhere.
My second love is fabric. Yes, you read that right.
Quilters beware. Anchorage has awesome fabric! (That’s all I’m going to say)

“Secrets of the Cruise Line … how to travel for free”
Another secret I have learned- the ‘secret’ to cruising. Join forces and you can travel for free. It is really simple. When a minimum of 16 people (or 8 cabins) book as a group then you will earn free cabin credits and group amenity points to use on your cruise!
Let's talk about group cruise planning in action
Recent benefits for club team leaders included thousands of dollars in FREE cabin credits (no cash value) and cruise amenities to enjoy on the cruise. Activating two more of the system keys – Radio media & promotional ads meant that a radio VIP and lucky contest winner received a free cruise package.
How did 207 members & guests benefit?
a. They enjoyed a great circle of travel companions with similar interests and passions
b. A safe and comfortable travel experience to enjoy
c. The best cruise pricing with added group amenities such as on board ship credit for everyone & of course exclusive time for group activities.
d. In addition, a few surprises from me, Debbie Wakelam
Remember these three simple steps to follow:
Determine group – Choose itinerary – Select month
1. From your club how many people are interested in joining?
2. Choosing a destination is half the fun. Where will we go this time?
3. The best deals are usually offered in early January, late April, May, June and September
Be creative and pick a theme. Having fun is what we all need. Others will want to join your group when they see how much fun it will be!
Now I know what you may be thinking . . . the economy is bad, the dollar is terrible and we are just not sure. (Remember the saying ‘He who hesitates …’)
Guess what?
This is a fantastic time to book.
Cruise lines have lowered their prices and just a small deposit is required now.
Quick off the top of your head – Name three places that you would like to go and see.
Get Ready,
Get Set,
Go! 1. __________ 2. __________ 3. __________
What is the Benefit of Group Travel for Your Organization or Club?
Best group pricing

Added group amenities

What is Involved in Organizing Group Cruise Travel?
Truthfully, it is a lot of work to organize a group. Some of you never will and others will only wish they had travelled.
What makes the difference is having a Group Travel Planner!
Follow these 3 simple steps and your group cruise will become a reality for you!
1. Determine Group Size
Tell us how many people are interested in joining you. A minimum group of 16 people or 8 cabins must be filled in order for you to obtain Free cabin credits & group amenities.
2. Choose an Itinerary
Cruise ships now visit over 500 ports worldwide! From the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, or across the world to Australia or Asia, choosing your destination is half the fun.
3. Select a Month to Travel In
The best group cruise deals are usually offered in early January, late April, May, June, September, October and early November.
Having a flexible sailing date could save money and provide you with more amenities!
Pick a Special Interest
Here are just a few examples of the many types of groups that can make the most of their group cruising experience:
Charity Group ~ Music ~Dancing Club ~ Quilting
Scrapbooking Club ~ Class Reunion ~ Church Group
Photography Club ~ Shopping/Christmas Group
Food & Wine Group ~ Singles Group ~ Red Hatters
~ The possibilities are endless!
Then sit back and leave the organizing to me.
Want to know how it really Works?
A group travel planner like me will organize your entire group; from taking care of all the logistics, to answering all of your questions, and from planning special events, to handling deposits, final payments, insurance, gratuities, flights, hotels, and everything else in between.
